On this extraordinary expedition you will
be guided through one of the most remote and pristine environments in the world.
As you fly north in the Canadian high arctic, the green landscape disappears below
to be replaced by iced capes and floating icebergs. This is when you begin to realise
how detached you are from the rest of the world, but this is just the beginning
of an incredible journey.
Our base camp at Resolute bay sits in the foot hills of Cornwallis Island,
an Inuit outpost deep inside the arctic circle. This hamlet acts as beacon for explorers
from all over the world - A stepping stone for those traveling to the Geographic
and Magnetic North Poles. As a team we will spend two days acclimatizing and training
in and around Resolute, preparing for your venture into the North West Passage.
Stepping out on our first day, we'll move as a team, across the sculpted
sea ice of Resolute Bay and on to neighboring Griffiths Island. As we round the
headland of Griffiths Island, eventually loosing sight of civilization you begin
to understand how dependent we have become on each other, so quickly. For four days
we will live move and learn to survive in this timeless land.
In the morning you will wake to the surreal comparison of a lunar landscape outside
the tent that stretches as far as the eye can see. The isolation and the eerie silence
give you the strange sensation that you are the only people on the planet.
On the morning of the fifth day, snowmobiles and local Inuit guides will
join the team to take us on a two-day adventure. Allowing us to reach deeper into
the arctic wilderness. This will be a fantastic opportunity to venture into new
areas of the arctic as well as looking for the other occupants of this region, the
majestic polar bear.
The last night of the expedition will give us a chance for reflection as
we stand outside the tent with a hot mug of chocolate, breathing in the cold arctic
air and looking into the vast wilderness. The following morning we will ski back
through Resolute. After a hot shower, a rest and a well earned breakfast there will
be chance to explore the town.
A champagne meal on the way back home through Ottawa will help us celebrate your
achievement of travelling and seeing, first-hand, this disappearing land.
