Working closely alongside local guides on all expeditions, our UK team bring a comprehensive set of skills to our expeditions, gained through working in some of the most extreme places on earth.
Mark Wood – Owner and Lead Guide
Mark Wood is a Polar explorer and adventurer. Over the past decade he has led major expeditions in the arctic including guiding the BBC Top Gear team on their ‘Race to the Pole’. He is currently preparing for his next expedition North South Solo.

Mark Kelly
Mark has been involved in a number of expeditions in the Canadian and Norwegian Arctic since 2006 including the 2008 Our World expedition, linking the two highest Inuit settlements in the Canadian Arctic.
Mark is an experienced Everest Base Camp and Island Peak guide and when not on expeditions, can be found training and competing in cycle races and Ironman Triathlons.
Pete Bradley
Pete is currently studying at Liverpool University medical school, and oversees some of the medical aspects of the trips we run. Aside from his medical skills, Pete is an avid mountaineer and kayaker, and can often be found out in the high-points of the UK, all year round.
Pete also runs the Wilderness Medical Society at Liverpool University.
Ryan Scarratt
As well as Everest Base Camp trips, Ryan has also been involved in Arctic expeditions since 2006, culminating in his successful crossing between Resolute Bay and Grise Fiord in 2009.
Liz Murrie
Liz is a Snowball Expeditions medic and experienced Everest Base Camp Guide.
Stephen Reynolds
A film-maker, director and cameraman who, whilst on expedition in Alaska with Mark Wood, shot several short films to capture the life of a dog-mushers and their dogs.
Other independent short films have been shown at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival and for the UK Film Council Digishorts scheme.
Supplementing our team of experienced, UK-based guides, Snowball Expeditions work with a highly-skilled team of local guides on all expeditions.
Providing vital local knowledge, experience and contacts, our overseas guiding team form an essential part of the Snowball family and are central to the success of our trips.
Devendra Rai
Devendra is the Lead Nepalese guide for Snowball’s Mount Everest Base Camp and Annapurna expeditions.
A native of the Khumbu region, he has over 20 years of experience in guiding teams in the Himalayan region.
Mauli
Mauil is co-leader of the Everest Base Camp expedition and like Devendra, has extensive experience of guiding all over the Kumbu region, including both Everest Base Camp and Island Peak expeditions.
Singi Lama
Singi is our highly-experienced mountain and climbing guide out in Nepal. Over the past fifteen years he has successfully summited many of the major peaks in the Himalayas, including Mount Everest (five times) and Ama Dablam to name but a few.
Singi leads all of our Island Peak climbs, and having summited the peak an incredible seventy-two times, you know you’re in safe hands!
Brent Sass
As Snowball Expeditions dog sledding guide, Brent’s life is based in Fairbanks, Alaska where over the past fifteen years he has run his teams of over forty Alaskan Huskies straight out of his ranch on the edge of the wilderness itself.
He is a veteran of the historic Iditarod race and the 1000 mile Yukon quest, which has made working with his dogs a life’s passion.
